Lips against the reed
The piano lays down the chords,
the drums and the bass are the groove.
It is my job to connect with you,
without the crutch of the spoken word.
Lips against the reed,
and fingers against the B flat,
it may look easy,
I have put in years trying to make it look like that.
So, from the Bflat, to the E,
and from the E, to the F sharp.
and then a resolve, on the B,
and while I play that another three times,
and think of my next idea,
for the key change,
and the time signature changes from 5/4.
One eye on my fingers,
the other eye on the door.
